Transitional Housing Support Worker

The Transitional Housing Support Worker delivers housing supports, resources and services to residents of the Native Women’s Centre.  The Housing Support worker will be a community support who will receive referrals from community agencies to support those affected with addiction and mental health and their families.  They will work in partnership with the Native Women’s Centre Violence Against Women Shelter, Homelessness Shelter, Anti-Human Trafficking Crisis Services and other agencies supporting indigenous women.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with all service users to ensure residents feel safe and are productive
  • Work cooperatively with management to provide efficient well- coordinated services
  • Provide a structured home like environment; assist in work for the service users
  • Conduct weekly room inspections’ document case notes into database
  • Participate in weekly meetings; provide updates to workshop users
  • Assist with intakes, assessments, supports, referrals and counselling as required
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings, participate in internal meetings; fundraising

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Social Work or a related field with 3+ years’ experience in field
  • Be an advocate for vulnerable persons suffering from addiction or mental health issues
  • Knowledge of social justice practices; recognize dignity of all persons
  • Computer proficiency for database, correspondence, spreadsheets, presentations
  • Valid G driver’s license with access to reliable vehicle
  • Must be able to obtain a clear criminal record check with vulnerable screening
